No. 4 Miami Hurricanes hold off Florida Gators to start season 4-0
On Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes remained undefeated in non-conference games by defeating the Florida Gators 26-7 at Hard Rock Stadium. Redshirt sophomore CharMar “Marty” Brown, a transfer from North Dakota State, scored two touchdowns, helping to secure Miami’s victory. Mark Fletcher Jr. also added a late 1-yard rushing touchdown.
Miami’s defense, led by first-year coordinator Corey Hetherman, dominated by holding Florida to just 141 yards, forcing them to go 0 for 13 on third down, and recording seven tackles for loss and four sacks.
This was the lowest yardage allowed under Florida’s fourth-year coach, Billy Napier.Miami’s offense struggled at times but still led 13-0 at halftime, thanks to Brown’s rushing touchdown and two field goals from Carter Davis.
Despite missed opportunities, Miami’s offense ended strong, with Brown and Fletcher combining for 196 rushing yards. Florida managed only 32 yards in the first half but scored early in the third quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run by Jadan Baugh.
Miami’s defense regained control afterward, forcing two turnovers on downs and a three-and-out to close the game. Quarterback Carson Beck completed 17 of 30 passes for 160 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.
The next game for Miami is against No. 7 FSU on October 4 in Tallahassee, while Florida will host No. 8 Texas on the same day.
